Default O'reily Super Start Battery Water Level

I have an O'reily super start group 31 battery. It's a year old and has been great so far. I checked the water level for the first time but I don't know how much should be in it. Should it be to the top? I don't see a fill line.

As long as the water is over the plates your are good, have always filled them to the bottom of the hole when needed.

May seem like a dumb question but how do I know that?

I use a battery fill jug, I bought it to use with golf cart batteries and also use it for trolling batteries, I check mine spring and fall. I also discovered that the clear plastic condiment dispenser bottles work fantastic for topping off batteries that are inconvenient to get to. Look into the top to check level, and use distilled water. Cheap distilled water is all I use.

When you pull the top caps off ... shine a light into each cell to see if the fluid is covering the lead plates. If it is, then you're OK. If it is not covering the top of the lead plates, pour a little distilled water into the cells with exposed plates until the plates are covered & charge the battery. You can finish topping off all the cells once the battery is fully charged.

If the fluid is covering all the plates in all the cells, but just barely, charge the battery & then top off with distilled water. It is best to NOT fill the cells up to the bottom of the fill hole. The fluid expands when being charged & may spill out if the level is up into the fill holes before being charged.

I use a plastic basting syringe to add distilled water to my batteries ... and can even "remove" a little fluid if I should happen to overfill a cell.

Allowing the lead plates to become exposed to air for any length of time will cause them to corrode (much like lead jig heads that haven't been used for awhile) and that "corrosion" will flake off and settle at the bottom of the battery. Once enough of that sediment collects & it comes in contact with the bottom of the lead plates, the battery will short out (so to speak) and will no longer hold a charge.

    * Disclaimer --- I'm going on memory about the above info, so check out "battery maintenance" on your search engine of choice for clarification.

An old anti-freeze tester with a hand bulb works great . Add/remove distilled water .

Make sure plates are covered, but not so high that it bubbles over on top of the battery when charging.
    Allow room for expansion.
Remember to add only distilled water into the battery - but anything you remove from your battery is NOT distilled water. It is ACID, and treat it as such. If a cell is over filled, better to pull some out and distribute to the other cells if you must, just remember what it is. It is no longer distilled water once it goes into the battery. Safety first!
