Parts 12,13 and 14 were replaced. They are just rubber seals that slip on the water tube. The water pump housing does not hold them in place in any way. The water pump housing just has a tapered hole that accepts the water tube.

    Side console.

Not sure if i need to pull the head back off and take another look in there or what.

Probably not the issue since this is a newer motor but I had a 65HP Mariner that done this. That motor actually had 2 different temperature sensor offered. They were 15 degrees different. I was told by a mechanic that it needed the higher temperature sensor. I replaced with the higher temperature temperature one and it quit. The way you explain the problem, your just right on the edge of the trip point.

I've got a new water pump housing ordered. After it is installed everything water pump related will be brand new.

    Thermostat is new.
    Temperature Sending Unit is new.
    Impeller, new.
    Impeller cup, new.
    Gaskets, new.
Water tube seals and grommets, all new.

Hope that works for you this time.
You have more patience than I.
It would have been traded, shot, or both by now if it was mine.

Do you have a water pressure gauge on this motor?

Might shed some light on the issue.

It's a dang good running motor now. Except for this issue.

When I first got the thing it had been let sit. And I was guilty as well of not using it from about May to October each year. I had a lot of trouble with the carbs and running rough. I started using only non-ethanol gas, keeping the tank full to the very top, fuel-water separator, changing the on-motor filter regularly and running the synthetic blend oil. Once all that got in place and I started just running the bejeezus out of it up and down the river or lake it sort of blew the cobwebs out of it and it is a very reliable and easy to take care of engine. These particular yamahas are very well thought of, aside from the oil injection system, which if it fails does have the potential to cause a catastrophic failure.

I am thinking again about removing the thermostat or seeing if I can find a thermostat that opens at a lower temp.

I do not. Can you direct me to somewhere I could purchase one? If you've read through the thread you can probably tell I am not opposed to spending money if it will cure or prevent this issue.

So, I looked a little bit on amazon. How do you know how much pressure is enough? Where is the intake for the pressure gauge? This is only a problem at idle for me.

Also, since this is a hunting boat, does the tube that goes from motor to gauge fill with water or is it just water pushing on air? How does it work (or not) if the water in the tube freezes?
