Default Yamaha lower unit vent plug

Hi folks. Can anyone with a yamaha engine tell me if the vent plug on there lower unit should be flush with the case when tightened? I realize the drain plug is counter sunk.self isolated myself and thought i could get some stuff done around home.I think i screwed up a 2 year old lower unit.Appreciate it.Marky

If you’re talking about the top plug, yes it should be flush. Did you change oil or something?

Yes.I changed the lower unit fluid today. Its not quite flush so I must have cross threaded it.Guess some people should never pick up a tool.

Did you put new washers on both plugs before reinstalling them?
You might have left the washer off the top plug and thats why its recessed.

It has a washer. The problem is that i dont think its screwing in as far as it should.Hoping someone with a yamaha would look at theirs and let me know.Thank you. PS..There is no marine mechanic within 85 miles of me to have look at it and dont see any yamaha motors around town.

I would take it back out and look everything over good....look at threads good....be sure they are clean....check your washer be sure it's ok....place the washer on the screw and bottom it out against the head....gently screw it back in...then snug it down good.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Thanks G.Ill check it again this am.it seems that it screws in perfect just not far enough.Do you run a yamaha ? Ill take a pic and see if i can figure how to post on here.Just dont want to get water in it or let fluid out while fishing and ruin lower unit.

IMO if it screwed in easily, you didn't cross thread it.

Did u put the right plug back in the right hole the plug on the bottom is a little longer cause it has a magnet on it maybe your problem. If u did cross thread it u can tap it out a hair bigger.
