    Default Engine choice Mercury/Evinrude

    Good afternoon,

I am in need of advice if possible. I am buying a new aluminum 20ft boat the manufacture normally sets a new
Evinrude 150 G2 HO on it. I have always been a Mercury guy, my choices are:

New Mercury Pro150XS four stroke 5yr warranty More Dealers

New Evinrude 150 G2 HO two stroke 7 yr warranty Less Dealers

The Evinrude claims better fuel economy, cleanest burning of all outboards, less maintenance, much faster hole shot and top end speeds.

Speed means nothing to me I do a lot of slow to mid range running. Is it a toss up between these two or what?

Please remember if possible to use the fact both are either 2019/2020 models. These things cost a fortune and this is my retirement boat so I am trying to get it right the first time and my last time buying a boat!

Thank you so much for any ideas/advice either way!!

    Steve

Mercury Pro150XS four stroke has my vote too. I am doing the same thing as far as buying my retirement boat... and on mine I have chosen a Mercury 115 ProXS four stroke.

If I were faced with that decision it would be simple.....Mercury!
It is a fair bet that at least they will be in business for the next few years, whereas Evinrude has a track record of sales and acquisitions stretching back several years.

I’d vote Merc out of those choices.

Go to Walleye Central, find the boat sub-forum and read Mercury vs Yamaha. Food for thought.

If my only two choices I would choose the Mercury as well. For such a large investment me personally I would prefer a Suzuki 1st or Yamaha 2nd. If this wasn't an option then I would continue to shop and research, but that's just me. Good luck and congrats on the retirement gift to yourself!
