The choice you posted was between a 2 stroke Evinrude and a 4 stroke Mercury...So with just those two options the Merc wins hands down. Four stroke motors are the best that I have ever owned and operated. That being said if you have other brands of 4 strokes to chose from Yamaha is a good one and dealers most everywhere.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Well the dealer pushes Evinrude first, he does have Mercury and Suzuki also but is very insistent that the two stroke Evinrude is by far my best option. My problem is I have always been a Mercury guy, I currently own a 2018 Mercury115 HP four stroke command thrust and love it, cant hear it run and have very good hole and mid range power on my 20 aluminum boat. The boat I`m getting is same length (20ft) and only 4 inches wider but they recommend from a 115 to a 200hp dealer says 150hp is perfect?

    Congrats on retirement!!

I vote Yamaha 4 stroke. Sold my last 2005 Yamaha 115 four stroke with OVER 4000 hours on it. Zero issues except the one time I pulled the fuel injectors and had them rebuilt and flow tested. Never left me stranded. I used it when I commercial fished.
I have had all the manufactures over the years and granted all have improved but If you can buy the Yamaha get it.
We used to call Mercury “a black anchor” but they too have made great improvements.
Buy Yamaha and you won’t regret it.
    Just my opinion.

2 stroke engines, you must mix oil with the gas. 4 stroke engines, just put gas in the tank. 4 strokes also get way better gas mileage, than 2 strokes do, and run a lot quieter. I have a Honda 4 stroke, and can talk to others without screaming. It just sounds like the dealer gets a lot better kick back from Evinrude, for selling them, or he just doesn't like working on the 4 stroke engines.

Haven't had to mix gas in a 2 stroke for 20 years now. Just top off the oil tank.

As for the fuel economy, Etecs are supposed to be right up there with 4 strokes, even better in some cases, but I don't not own one and cannot back that up.

Of those two options, hands down the Mercury wins. If I had my first choice though it would be a Yamaha.

What you need to do is go to bassboatcentral. Check out the forum for OMC engines. Lots of reading but when you get into it you can gather info on quality and warranty. I have read a bunch on them on that site and walleycentral. My take is the reason they offer such a long warranty is because your going to need it. And have read a few cases where warranty is refused and everything is super expensive for them. Check on how many warranty claims they have on Suzuki. I venture to guess little to none.

    Mercury, without a doubt.
Here, check out a tour of the new Mercury facility.
Not a finer outboard made anywhere, IMHO.
