Question Cleaning out a plastic fuel tank ?

What have you found that works? It has residual of fuel, from 17 years worth of sitting. It's all solid, black gunk, sitting on the bottom.
The biggest opening is 2.5" diameter. 20 something gallon tank.
I poured some fuel in it the other day, with the hope it would loosen it up.
    It's out of the boat.

I would pour out all the gas, put n some old clothes and take it to car wash. Wash out with soapy water. Pour out and check inside for any residue and if any hit it again. Then take home and put where it can drain good without getting in your gras. Put garden hose in and let it run for awhile. Drain every bit of water you can. Then if you have a portable vacuumed that you can put hose on exhaust put hose inside and let it go for awhile to dry as much as you can out. Then just let it sit somewhere safe for awhile so you know it’s good and dry. You more than likely will still get gas smell even when cleaned good.

I’d put a couple gallons of 50/50 pine sol and water in it. Let it sit for a few days and rinse it out. The pine sol will desolve whatever is in there. Pine sol is one of the better carb cleaners you can get when you have one gunked up.

    Interesting about pinesol! Thanks all!!

On another note, I was finally working on the boat this morning. Wife called me inside, a light bulb popped on the ceiling fan in our bedroom. It's a remote control fan. No biggie right? Wrong. Now, the light will not shut off with the remote. The fan will though. Ive replaced bulbs in that fan before, no issues.
I left it off, at the wall switch, for 5 minutes, still wouldn't work properly. Replaced battery in the remote, no luck.
After we moved into this house, I replaced the single wall switch with a dual switch. Luckily, all the needed wiring was in place. Only to find out it's not compatible with a remote control fan. Know where on the instructions did it say that. I wound up calling customer service for that manufacturer switch.
I asked if they could put that in future instructions.
Neither one of us has been happy with the light output of that fan. Looks like a good excuse too replace it.
    It's always something !

Got a bit of dilemma. I bought some pinesol, was going to try cleaning the inside of the tank .
There are two threaded fittings on top of the tank. Withdrawal and vent. The fill and tank level openings are molded and fine.
I took the fittings out, too aid in cleaning them (full of gunk) noticed the nut around the threaded fittings where both broke. Removed the broken nuts. The threaded fittings are not coming out, and the threads are all buggered up.

    Would you -
    - figure out a way too remove them? At the moment, I don't have a big extractor. Might look for one tommorow.
    - cut both fittings out, make a flange and mount new fittings?
    - buy a new tank? I briefly priced tanks...... Ouch. Although, that could open new possibilities for transom area storage.
Any and all help/options are welcome !

Sounds to me like it’s time to bite the bullet and just buy a new tank.

When I first found the "problem" that was my initial thought. Then I went inside and priced them. I decided to stay in, and watch the XFL instead. Think it over, with a wild turkey and coke!

Have a few more Wild Turkeys without the Coke. Then whip out that credit card and get on Amazon.

    Always works for me.
