I agree on doing a bearing check, even if it's just jacking the trailer up and spinning the wheel ... but 50lbs psi is not "best for most boat trailer tires". My first two boat trailers had 12" wheels & the tire psi was down around 30 ... and my current boat trailer tires require 65psi. I'd have serious trouble if I simply used 50#psi as a "one size fits all" measure.

Go off the tire sidewall. Sounds like it left the factory with either bias ply or load range B tires and you’ve got 6 ply radials on it now. You should always run radial trailer tires with ST before the dimensions at the max pressure identified on the sidewall if you stay within the speed rating of the tire. Under inflation leads to excessive heat buildup and is harder on trailer tires than running them at their max psi cold.

I advise to start with whats on the sidewall, and in time you might tweak it to improve ride, control, and tread wear.
Actually, this can be applied to your vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, and wheel barrow, as well as your boat trailer!
