    Default Problems with Ultrex

How often should you change the battery in the Ultrex 112 Remote unit? My Ultrex is 9 months old but the remote has given me intermittent problems over the last three months. Fully charged everything works well when I start out in the morning. But sometimes the remote will either stop working or some of the functions will stop working during the day.

Yesterday the steering buttons and spot lock stopped working but the speed control and propeller buttons worked fine.

When this happens the remote battery always shows 1/2 charge and it will take a full charge anytime I place in on the charger. I tried hooking a hand held battery charging system to it but the remote still did not work properly.

I went to the foot unit and everything but spot lock worked on the foot controller. The spot lock light would flash on, then turn off and spot lock would not work.

I am going to call MK support in the morning but wonder if the batteries that come with these units have a short life span. Or if I am overcharging the battery by hooking it up to the charger every night when I stopped fishing, when the battery is not completely discharged.

The 112# must be a different remote then the 80# or is a new design or maybe the link remote. I have had by 80# Ultrex since June 2016 and I have changed my batteries 3 times, about once a year. The remote I have is non link, and takes standard AAA batteries. Never a days trouble out of it. I would definitely contact Minn Kota, something isn't right.

What he said. P.S- it is the battery, more than likely.

Thanks for your response. After I posted this I tried it again and the foot controller was locked up and would not steer.

I talked with MK and they said it was probably a sensor failure on the foot control unit. This appears to be a fairly common failure with this unit. I pulled it today and am taking it in for repair tomorrow.
