    Default Power trim and tilt

I have a pump bleeding down after a while and I heard that Lucas power steering fluid with conditioner may help it ? Mixing that with hydraulic fluid would that hurt or may help ?

Mine has been leaving oil on the garage floor for a couple yrs, refill in spring and again when parked for winter, I put Lucas pwr steering fluid in last spring and I just kept raising and lowering motor several times to get it into the system, since then I’ve only seen a couple drops of fluid on the floor,

The Lucas stuff is good. The trans conditioner and power steering treatment have worked for me and friends. Their oil conditioner is great on older motors. Raised my oil pressure 20 lbs from 30 to 50.

I use Valvoline Hi Mileage Transmission Fluid with stop leak and seal conditioners in my tilt/trim unit. Comes in red gallon jugs, or quarts at Walmart. My manual says dextron may be used, and that's what it is.
I pull my fluid out with my Mity Vac every year or two, and refill. They don't hold very much at all, no point in neglecting it. I do it about every other time that I change the lower unit oil and check behind the prop for fishing line and such.

Be careful with that Lucas stuff. It is thicker than honey and may not pump at all in cold weather. I've seen it stop power steering pumps from working when cold, once you suck all that crap out they go back to working normal.

A little probably won't hurt, but don't overdo it. There's nothing magic about it, it's just a viscosity enhancer, as you can imagine a thicker fluid will not leak as quickly.

There are seals in the hydraulic cylinder and check valves in the pump unit that can cause leak down issues.
