I’ve used the pennsoil for a long time with no ill effect. The other woman had a steady diet of it for at least 8 years, and I drove it like I stole it. Mariner 150. Friend bought two or three cases of gallons super cheap and used it in his 115 optimax and never had an issue. Takes a long time for a weekend warrior to go through 3 cases of oil. I buy the blend of synthetic and natural.

Penzoil XLF and synthetic blend is just fine for carb and EFI twostrokes. On the Optimax, you need to use the Merc/Quicksilver DFI. The Merc/Quicksilver Premium Plus/Synthetic Blend is an acceptable substitute and can be mixed with DFI. Merc and Quicksilver are the same oil and both made by Mercury. The QS was made to sell to non Mercury dealers like Walmart. The DFI and Premium Plus have s specific flow rate to propperly lubricate the compressor on the Optis. I once had a customer using Walmart Supertec oil in his Merc 250ProXS. He found out the hard way that compressors are around $1,000 before tax and labor.

I have a 135 Opti. When it was installed on the boat in 2013, I watched as the mechanic poured a gallon of Premium Plus in the tank. He told me to only use Premium plus or the Opti DFI oil in it. I have done so and it's still going strong today. A local dealer here buys the DFI oil in 55 gal drums and pumps it into clear gallon jugs to save the customers money. I think the last couple of gallons I bought was $22.95 per gallon. That's cheap for mercury DFI oil. PM me if you want the name/number of the dealer.

Me i have used Amsoil Interceptor since new in my 2000 135 Optimax that`s going on 20 years and only had one problem when one injector had to be cleaned besides normal maintenance, and 800 plus hours.
