Recommendation is 300-500gph ... but an 800-1000gph unit doesn't cost much more. Recommendation is set at that low volume (for boats under 18') because its primary function is to rid the boat of small quantities of water & not to keep the boat afloat if a hole is punctured in the hull.

The amount of space available for mounting the pump is also a deciding factor, as is the gauge of wiring that is used to connect the pump to the battery.

The biggest one you can fit in the space you have. Can’t go overboard on safety in my opinion.

It depends on how big of a hole you get in your boat.

My original is a automatic...and also has a switch on the console to turn it on manually....which is a great safety feature because sometimes stuff can hang the float switch up.
