Apparently my boat has the plywood also but my boat is aluminum. I was surprised when I drilled through the deck and hit wood. Just something to rot if water gets in there. What was the reason for using it you think?

Honestly plywood is cheaper than aluminum. I am sure it was a way to stiffen the front deck more cost effectively. It would offer some sound deadening to the deck. Most aluminum boats I have seen have plywood in the transom also.
It's probably good wood ,sealed and shouldn't get wet.
If u want. I can weld it up for u
if u dont use stainless it will be hard to remove whenever.my thought if it gaes on boat use stainless u will be glad u did later.
All the hardware I use on the boat is stainless.
