I used thread inserts on a plywood and fiberglass canopy I built for the side by side. They worked out pretty good

That's how my boat was built from the factory. The only access under the deck, without some little person crawling through a compartment door, was a switch panel that you could remove and had the 3x10 opening. When I restored my boat, I made 2 removable panels that screw down to the deck at the front for making life better for wiring or TM installing. Sure is nice.

Mine either. When I drilled through the top deck I hit wood and it was sandwiched with a 2nd metal plate. The toggle is below 2 metal plates so it's solid.I

Didn't even know they had anything like that. Those would work good for my setup

I’ve used another method. The night before put some silicone between the nut and washer, gluing them together. Then when you put them in a box end wrench they set pretty stable. I had a similar deal recently with the new boat. 4’ deck with a hole too small to get my chest into. Didn’t get to do the nuts and washers beforehand so did it wet. Tape vise grips into a 3’ piece of 1” square tube aluminum, clamp nut loosely in the vise grip silicone the nut and washer so it will make the trip. Second party on the impact to turn the screw when I say to. Had I tightened the vise grip I would never gotten it to release. Worked well. Twice. Had to reposition tm, 1” too far back. Extra set of holes to silicone shut. Was thrilled with that. All good now.

I've never been able to get these to stay tight. Probably could have used Locktite on them but gave up after 2 sets worked loose.
