    Default Deck wood

I have always used 3/4 plywood for my deck floors. Got to wondering if it is really necessary. A 220# man should be fine with 5/8 on aluminum framing I would think.

Depends what the sub structure is built of, thickness of decking. I would rather error on the side of too much than not enough if I am going to stand on it

To answer the question correctly, we'd need to know what the span is between the beam structure.

I think many manufacturers use 5/8 or even 1/2". The support structure underneath is what matters.

I used 5/8 on my last boat and it was fine. My current boat has 1/2". the previous owner bought the materials and I didn't want to buy new stuff. The ribs underneath are about 15" apart, the floor seems solid to me.

I understand but I was not looking for some scientific equation . Just conversation and thought. I would have to pull the current decking to answer your question and that ain't happening until spring. I have seen Tracker factory installs with 1/2" decks and like I said earlier, I have always used 3/4. In an alien type of logic... if 1/2=ok and 3/4 =ok, the size between should be ok also.

Your statement would be correct if no other factors are considered. Such as the health of the person carrying a slightly lighter sheet of material during installation vs a heavier.
