Water separator filters are important in this day and age. The ones with a clear bottom and a drain are the best in my opinion. Which ever you go with be sure it is rated at 10 microns or less. No sense in having a filter if its going to let grains of sand thru.

Best thing to do is to stop fuel to engine, let it run out of fuel ( use non- ethanol fuel) if 4 cycle, VST chamber needs to be drained. I'm replacing 1 rite now at shop 2014
Merc 40 hp high pressure pump , my cost $518.00

Have y'all put non-ethanol. And ethanol gas in a pint jar ( when humidity is high) and run a fan over pint jars?

Your Optimax has a fuel filter and water separator with an alarm if it gets water in the system. I have a 2000 Optimax running 10% ethanol and never had fuel related issue except having to replace the fuel lines to the newer type designated for ethanol. I do run Seafoam at all times.

Can you elaborate on that I got confused. When and why should I let it run out of fuel?

That's what I do to my Mercury 60 2-stroke. I had to carbs cleaned 5 years ago and it will turn over a couple of times on the first crank and after that it will ran as good as a 4 stroke.

Don't let it run out of fuel.

Your motor should have adequate filtration. Another filter may introduce unneeded restrictions. Check your owners manual.

I've replaced (4 stroke) so many vst high pressure pumps (outboards) this year , I've lost count after 20. Because ethanol gas sat in vst for 4-6 months
