Cheap way is a small bungee cord, but you can get a spring to put on the lever from Lowes or Tractor Supply. Just an idea

I have a Yamaha 9.9 tiller and the tilt support lever does not have a spring on it to assist in raising and lowering it. Very difficult to do while recovering the boat? Anyone have any suggestions? Thx!

get numbers of motor, get on line get parts an fix,it is easy fix.good luck
Can it be retrofitted with such a thing?
I had a Merc 9.9 4-stroke and there was no lift assist on it, and it was HEAVY! It was absolutely awful with how I'm always in shallow water, beaching the boat, and wearing myself out raising and lowering that heavy motor. I ended up selling that motor because of it. I upgraded to a motor with electronic tilt/trim.
You could always add a CMC PT-35, which is what I was going to do, but for the cost it was cheaper to sell the motor and upgrade.
Art, Keith an Rob....ty for your response's. Pretty sure the motor did not come with a spring nor is there a hole in the handle for one. It is a pain to lift the motor and try to place the lever in the correct position at the same time. Art, I would like to upgrade.... something I will do in the future (new boat altogether). Until then, I'm going to look into an assist bar handle and maybe call Yamaha and see if there's any type of add on. Thx again guys!
