    I use the "transom saver" it supports between the foot of the motor and trailer to take some of the weight off transom.

    At least 6 inches. For my uses it serves no purpose. I get free time I'm gonna get it off there.

    I really like my "Motor Mate". Easy on, easy off. Motor is good and stable. Far superior to the old "Transom Saver" that goes to the rear roller on the trailer. Fantastic design. Wish I had thought of it! (Amazon)

    I don't know if I'd go as far as saying that it's superior to the transom saver. The Motor Mate does nothing to take the stress off of the transom going down the highway, every bump you hit is like a shot to the transom, it's even worse if you have a big jackplate on there making for a longer moment arm.

    The Motor Mate is nothing more than a steering lock. I had one on a Ranger bass boat, same concept and called a Lock-N-Stow. It's definitely more convenient than the "stick" that transposes the load/shock to the trailer, but it just doesn't work the same.

    What really sold me is that with the Motor Mate the motor is rock solid. Grab the motor, grunt all you like, it does not budge. Put a transom saver to the end of the trailer and grab the motor and note the slack. If the boat moves at all on the trailer, it puts even more slack at the motor with the transom saver. Lots of people even have straps on their transom savers so they don't fall off from the slack while going down the road.
    That's why I have a couple of old transom savers collecting dust in the corner of the garage. I used 'em for many years, if you try each, you too will see there is no comparison, IMHO.

    That may be so with motors without tilt/trim .... but, when I trim my motor down on my toter, you ain't moving it up or down .... period !!

    I have tilt and trim.
    Next time you get where you are going with your boat, go back there and wag the motor side to side. If the boat moves at all during transit, slack gets there that way too.
    No argue intended, but I'm not going back to the old transom saver again.
    To each their own.
    I have used both, night and day difference. Motor Mate all the way.
    Not something "Like" or "Same Concept". Motor Mate.

    I've used both as well, and the transom is under more stress with a Motor Mate type. Fact.
