On my pontoon I have a Suzuki 140 that will not stay on plain. Boat had been running fine and 2 months ago I left the house to go fishing. Got out to the main lake and it died. Would not rev up. Took it to a Suzuki dealer and he had it for a month. Replaced all fuel lines on motor and replaced or cleaned fuel filters. Said engine computer was bad. Spent $2,000 and it still does the same thing. Took it back and he blames old fuel and built in tank. Drained fuel and cleaned tank and does same thing. Borrowed a tank and hooked that up same thing. Removed bulb from line same thing. Now boat plains out and runs about a 1/4 mile and dies back to idle. Let it idle for a while and it will do same thing. Mechanic said that he gets no codes when it is hooked to the computer. Anybody got any ideas. I am trying to find a new mechanic now. Called another dealer and he says call him back in September. When it dies the bulb goes slack but pumping it does not help.

You say the bulb goes slack? Do you mean flat? If so,you'd have a fuel restriction up stream of the bulb.Fuel lines can separate internally and suck togather when you run wide open and choke off the fuel supply, when it drops to a idle it could be getting enough fuel to fill the vst bowl (or what ever they call it on a EFI) ,and you can run opened up for a bit again tell the line collapses again.
Going out on a limb here. Sounds like the fuel line has de laminated inside from ethanol and is collapsing.
Why in the world would you spend $2,000 on a new computer when it's sounded like a fuel problem from the start?
Good call on getting the fuel lines and filters replaced, that's step one. Step two would be running it on a different tank to see if it's a tank pickup issue, good call in doing that and eliminating that factor. Step three would have to be the fuel pump, I can't believe this was skipped over. I guess with today's modern engines, if the engine doesn't throw a code the mechanic just assumes the computer is bad? That just seems like madness to me.
Keep us posted as I'm interested to see how this one turns out.
There are few good mechanics these days- boats, cars, small engines. If the computer does not tell them what to do, they just remove and replace until the find it or they don't but, you needed everything they installed whether if helped or not.
