Thread: Tire replacement

Here is what you need. You can check locally and see if you can find them. Main thing is radial and D rated tires. This Kenda is supposed to be a pretty good tire. But there are others out there.

You'll probably have to order them yourself, most tire shops for whatever reason have a hard time getting a specific tire and try to sell you some off-name brand like the Commodores you have, which oddly I have a pair too on a utility trailer that have held up well but I wouldn't want them on my boat trailer.

That Kenda one above is a good one, and I've had good luck with Carlisle brand too.

I had the local tire shop mount and balance them.

Like Cray said, getting radial instead of bias, and having a Load D rating are the key things.

I'm not too far from needing a pair myself.

Went to Etrailer in Wentsville Mo and found some Kenda Loadstar 13in 8ply tires. Thanks for all you help

Always make sure they are trailer tires, and observe the recommended psi. Many folks think 35 psi like a car tire - mine recommend 50 psi. The trailer tires have stronger sidewalls to better handle scuffing and such. Some have max speed marked on them too.
Also a good idea to check the DOT date on the tires, many have been known to put old tires on sale. Not recommended to be rolling around on tires more than 5 or 6 years old.

Exactly !! My current trailer tires are rated for 65mph @ 65psi ... same as the Kenda's they replaced. My boat came with light truck tires (bought used) and one blew out on me on the Parkway after less than 2yrs of limited use. Bought Kendra Load D 8ply steel belted radial trailer tires .... one of which is now my spare. (Busted a steel belt in the other Kenda) I replaced them with Mastercraft A/S IV tires, which have been on the trailer for several years now and doing fine.
