Default Johnson 40 hp 1960 questions

I aquired an RDSL-22 1960 40hp outboard motor, but did not have the wiring harness for it. This engine would not fire when it was cranked, but after replacing 7mm plug wires, and filing points,it fires my next step is to replace the float and gasket and all fuel hoses. They are dry rotted. The plug connector that comes out the side is Rectangle about 1.5 x 2.5 but all insulation on wires crumble when you touch them...the 12volt battery wire goes direct to starter,(it must go to a starter soulnoid from outside wiring harness, and to kill the engine you ground the points.
My question is where do you get marine female connectors, I need two for power the male connector measures .250 diameter, and the others measure .125 inch diameter. If I can locate these connectors planning on using a heavy piece of rubber to drill out for each pin connector then plug it into the orignal connector that is there. I am going to install the starter soilnoid inside the engine housing.

When I worked on a 70s era Johnson 35 hp, I used marineengine.com a lot for info, as well as the SELOC manual, and several parts of the Sierra brand.

When it comes to old motors like that, you'll probably have to do a lot of cross-referencing as the part numbers tend to change a bit over the years.

Thank you for your reply, today had to make a fly wheel key nobody here had any and the one that was on it looked like it had been sheared at some time or another Ebay wanted 10.00 or 12.00 plus shipping and I was not sure if it was the right one, this cost me .75 cents and a few mins. of my time, got that on and checked for fire and would not fire,

So I determined that you dont wire up both wires together that comes from the capicator side of the points, was going to use that to kill the motor, I think with both wired together, they would short out each other. After I seperated the two I got them to fire again.Put a little fuel in the carb.and Wala,It fired. Will fill up the big water tub and try to start it and see if it will run.Took me a couple of days to clean out the carb, and the fuel pump of gobs of white power, dont really know what that was, maybe old 2-cycle oil.It had every hole stoped up.

Im wanting to build a wiring harness for this engine, trying to locate,What is called Socket and pins for Johnson outboard motors.I think I found a source for these. thanks boy am I having fun...
