    Default Boat Motor Hours

How does the hours on a used boat affect the sell/trade in value?

I have a 2015 60 HP mercury that only has 56 hours on it....

I normally take it to one of the local PFA's and typically only use the trolling motor to putt putt around.

Unless the buyer has any idea of what the "hours" mean, probably not a whole lot. But I'd put it in any sale/trade ad, all the same.

Absolutely no effect what so ever unless is absurdly high hours. Would throw up a red flag if it had say 500+ hours on it (from trolling).. but otherwise, 5 hours, 50 hours, doesn't matter really. Most stuff boat related is valued by year model.

A dealer taking it in on trade won't care one bit about the hours, unless like I said it is absurdly high which could mean it needing a lot of maintenance before reselling. Again, could have 5 hours, could have 50, could have 200 and he's still going to give you about 30% less than what he thinks he can quickly flip it for... When he goes to resell it he'll mention if it has 5 hours, but your 56 hours probably won't even be mentioned in his resale.. just that its a 2015.

I have a 2014 90 merc with 23 hours on it. Bought it in mid 2016 brand new as old stock and didn't get to use it much the 2016 season. 2017 and about half of last year before the flooding started. I guarantee i'll get 2014 motor value and not a penny more when I go to sell.

Unless you have a special counter installed, you'll have to take it to a boat dealer/service center so they can hook it up and check the hours. They'll probably charge you for it, but they'll check the compression on each cylinder along with some other stuff that they can charge you to fix.... I know the last time i had mine checked, they said the lower foot had water intrusion and would cost 250 to fix.... i'm betting it was just a bad seal though....

My new boat and motor didn’t come with an hour meter. I paid some extra cash for the Mercury Vessel View. It was easy to install and provides more than an hour meter. I have a app on my iPhone that gives me all the info I need to know. Amazon has them for $225.00. You will need to check to see if it supports you year of motor. Mine is a 60 4 stroke as well.
    Nope, not a hockey player!
