    Default MinnKota Terrova Problem

    Hey all,

Got her out for the first time this year today. Over the winter I had the boat in a storage unit that did not have power ran to it. So I took all 3 of the batteries out of the boat. 1 Crank, 2 Trolling motor. I kept them in the garage on my work bench over winter with a charger on them to keep them up.

    The Problem:

The trolling motor is acting very sluggish and the head was turning really slowly. Usually on 10 speed it pulls the boat around very quickly. Today it would only pull it around a little bit before shutting down. I would set it with the remote to go 7-10 power and it would act like it gets the signal but then not do it and the propeller icon would disappear. It did actually move us a bit when we first got there, but not at all like it normally does. I could tell right away something was wrong. I tried the foot pedal but it seemed like the same thing.

So I got it home and took the prop off and found a bunch of fishing line wound around the shaft, cleaned it all up. When using the pedla now the prop seems to be moving full speed again on 10 but it is hard to tell if its right or not on land. But I did seem to keep getting the same issue when using the remote.

Anyone ever run into something like this? Could I possibly have something hooked up wrong from when I put the batteries back it? Everything else works right so I assume its all wired correct. Would it even work if it was only hooked to 12v when its a 24v system?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Line around the shaft completely shut doem my friends 12 volt 50# thrust motor. We thought the motor was bad until I pulled the prop off.
After that I pulled mine and was shocked I had a bunch if line wrapped also. It can destroy the bearing seal and leak water into the motor which will short out the motor.
I'd sure do the line cleaning before I did anything else.

It might work on 12V but not very well. Check the battery wiring. If good check the charger output.

Got the volt meter out. Had 24v going up front to TM. Check each battery and one was crapped out. Hooked my grandpas home made charger to the trolling motor and it acts correctly when getting proper juice.

    Thanks for replies guys.
