Default Minn Kota Power Drive V1 Problems

I need help with a 2003 PD50. I bought this TM off a gentleman thinking I was getting a decent deal. He did not have the foot pedal (and I had no idea how "rare" they were). I was able to find one from a gentleman here. Took the foot pedal home, hooked it up, and only the speed function would work. The Walmart battery was on its 7th year so, I figured maybe it was the voltage, bought a new battery. Nope! all the electrical connections looked fine. Now, the speed function doesn't work. I'm thinking maybe the control board. I can her a click, but no movement. Is there a way to test it? Should I upgrade to the V2 board?

On your pedal, does it have the sliding speed control. If it does you sometimes have to pull the pedal apart and clean the sliding control real good. They are bad about getting dirt in them and failing.

Sorry I failed to mention, I've cleaned the pedal and it seems to be working. I guess. I can here the tm click when the pedal is pressed.

Pull main board cover and check the main wire connections for corrosion and being good and tight.

Thanks for your input. Should a 12v V2 board work. I'm thinking about upgrading to copilot. I just want to eliminate the possibility of the motor or something else being wrong.

Yes, call these guys with your serial number. I recently did a V1. Changed to V2 board with round plug and added copilot for a friend. These folks are real helpful. But I would before ordering parts, unplug main wires to motor from board, jump those wires with straight power to make sure motor runs and that you don’t have a problem there.

Hey man I just wanted to thank you again. For anyone else experiencing the same problem with the V1 and want to upgrade to the V2 control board, here's he part number:Minn Kota 12 Volt Power Drive V2 & RT/SP Control Board 2884055. The guy at Northland was great and the shipping was within a few days. That did not fix the problem though. I had also ordered the co-pilot on ebay. Installation is quick and easy. The speed works flawlessly but still no turning gear. Opened the gearbox and the Drive Housing Motor (2777050) was rusted and siezed up. I happened to have an older powerdrive that had the same (or similar) drive housing motor. Swapped it out and it works fine for now. Ordering the replacement. It appears the o ring at the top of the drive housing was torn and allowed water down into the drive housing. Thanks again.
