    Default Leaking bearing seals

When bought my boat and trailer I noticed that one of the bearing seals had leaked grease. I didnt worry about it and figured a new bearing seal would take care of it. I did maintenance on my hubs and now the brand new seal is leaking. Is there a remedy or do some hubs never let a seal seal?

You've probably got a burr on your spindle that's cutting the edge of the seal. You could remove the hub again, polish the spindle with emery cloth, then put back on and try again. Could also be a worn out bearing, either side causing it.

EDIT: Also mic the spindle and make sure the seal is the right size. I learned long ago that you can get in trouble using the number from the part you removed. It may not have been the correct seal to start with.

If you'll mic your spindle where the seal runs, I'll give you the correct seal part number. It will be tomorrow on that though.

Could be wear on the section of the spindle where the lip of the seal runs...if its not smooth or has a grove worn in it....you will have to get a seal and Speedy Sleeve to repair it. The speedy sleeve repair kit will come with a driving tool to install the sleeve onto the spiblle.

Thanks furflyin. Might be awhile before I can tear it down. I pinched a nerve, now my butt checks are numb. I think I worked in the yard to much today. I'll definitely mic it and send you a PM when I tear it down.

No bearing buddy. It's just zirk fitting on the end of the spindle with the rubber EZ dust cover. I can pump grease until it runs out of the front bearing without blowing out the seal. The factory seal leaked right from the start and when I inspected my bearings and repacked them I was hoping it would resolve the issue. It still leaks even though the seal surface is brand new looking. It's a 2018 trailer.

Wrong seal?? Seal put in backwards?? Wheel not tightened properly when re-installed?? If all that good double lipped seals would probably take care of leak.

OK,I had the same problem with that setup.I got rid of the rubber dust cover and replaced them with a tin or galvanized dust cover that you tap in with a large socket. Got them at a boat dealership. That's what they said to use. Clean and repack and use those once a year and you shouldn't have any more problems. You can probably buy them elsewhere also. My water was coming in and around the rubber dust cover. If the trailer is that new you can also call whoever you bought it from and tell them to fix it. If you have changed the rear seal make sure you used a double lipped seal. You can blow those seals out by putting to much grease in your hubs.

Bearing Buddy makes a grease seal kit that includes a stainless steel surface that the grease seal rides on so it is smooth and doesn't wear out the seal. See etrailer.com Make sure you know the dimensions of your spindle, and what bearings and races are used(inner and outer). It is very easy to get the wrong part. They have good service, but if you are in a hurry don't use the free shipping, it is pony express or maybe mule express. They are in eastern Missouri iirc.
