    Default Motor Guide X3 Composite Shaft replacement HELP!


    Hi everyone! like a moron i broke the lower composite shaft on my X3 and i cant get the shaft unscrewed from the prop housing.I tried a pipe wrench but it wont budge.Are these expoxied into the threads and if so how do i break it loose? Anyone ever replaced one?

    Only on minkota, but try this. Put housing in a vise or something with out squeezing housing, use a hair dryer or heat gun preferably and heat that area real good where it screws in. If it’s epoxied in that will help brake it loose. I know on some minn Kota motor that’s how they are done but on Terrova motors they are epxyed and pressed in.have to replace shaft and motor housing.

    Checked and it’s threaded so heating should work.

    thanks for the tip.Used a small propane bottle and a little heat and it came right off! who is this Jones guy who sells trolling motor parts that is recommended here and any contact info?

    Replaced many of them. Before you install new shaft turn housing upside down so shaft hole is down and take a pick and clean the threads out. This keeps the old sealer from dropping in the motor. Then use red lock tight and coat the threads on the new shaft and screw it in. Let sit for 24 hours and your ready to go.
