    Default Trolling Motor Batteries

I'm debating between the Duracell AGM Deep Cycle Marine and RV Battery (Group Size 31) at $180 versus the Duracell Marine Battery (Group Size 31) deep cycle for $100. Their both rated at a 20 amp hour rate of 105.

From what I've read the AGM is a little more maintenance free, but what do you all think?

You also need a charger that will charge AGM...not all of them will.

Good to know. I have an on-board 2 bank charger that's probably fairly old since the boat is a over 20 years old.

What G said. I just bought a 2 bank Promariner charger only to discover it will not work on AGM batteries. It works on Lead Acid and GEL batteries but not AGM. I actually thought AGM and GEL were the same but they are not. So, now I got to return it and start over.

The newer MK Digital chargers with a D at the end of the model number will also charge AGM batteries now. I just read the user manuals from my 330D and 106D chargers purchased last year.

If it were me, I'd get the $100 battery and expect at least 4 years out of it ($25/year)

With the $180 battery you would need to get at least 7 years out of it to be equivalent with it's higher price...with the environment marine batteries are subjected to, I'm not a fan of trying to get 7+ years out of a battery.

Now that I am enlightened on the onboard charger issue, I'm thinking the same way!

The $100 battery is no bargain. It is 185 minute RC at $100. You can easily find 205/210 minute RC for less than $100 in a Group 29 with a much better warranty.

I wouldn't worry about the special charger for AGM deal. Modern chargers are all fine for an AGM. Some manufacturers get really finicky about voltages, but for the most part as long as you stay at 14.7V or below you are fine.

Can you please provide a link to this battery you speak of? I get the feeling you might be a little confused on the rating, you might be comparing apples and oranges.
