Been running gas out of outboards all my life - never had a single problem with a compression loss.

Yes i drain my fuel line too. Several times a year.

My Yamaha 4 stroke9.9 ‘00 I’ve done both ways and still have to clean it fairly often. Probably better to loosen the brass screw on the bowl so it actually drains completely. I just cleaned the 60 2stroke for the 2nd time ever this year it’s an 04. It was actually not bad but had a needle stuck. I just learned about the keeping the bulb pumped. I’ll try that on the big one now.

I only do that if it's going to be stored for more than 3 months.

I'll run the gas tank nearly dry before storage,
add Sta-Bil to the remaining fuel in the tank (usually only a gallon or two),
let it run a few minutes to ensure the Sta-Bil mixed fuel is in the fuel system,
then disconnect the fuel line from the engine and let the engine idle until it shuts off,
then once cool, add fogging oil to each cylinder

When it's time to use it again, I'll fill the gas tank up with fresh fuel, connect the fuel line, and then fire it up and go.

I used to drain the gas out, and I always had issues cranking it. Now I just leave it all hooked up and she fires right up, well as good as a cold two stroke can!!
