    Default Tracker Grizzly

I'm on Social Security and sure can't afford a fancy boat like many of you have (you will be there one day).

I'm thinking about a 1648 Tracker Grizzly... a bare boat with trailer to start, and then add accessories as I have the $$$.

Any of you have this boat? Anything good or bad to say about it?

Thanks for your help... and Let's go fishing.

don't have one, but they're good boats. A bare one is a good platform to build it the way you want it. Good Luck.

I’m of the opinion of anything to get you on the water and enjoying outdoors and fishing will work. I have a very simple and cheap kayak....but it works and gets the job done. A Tracker Grizzly sounds like it will work wonderfully and get you going. Build like you said and Have fun!!

I fished out of one for 15 years. It's was a solid boat, and would go anywhere. Bought mine bare bones and built it myself. Had a lot of fun, and caught a ton of fish all over. The downside, more than two and it's cramped. And it blew around like a sail in any kind of wind.

I understand the S.S. budget constraints and keeping that in mind you may be better off trying to find a slightly used boat that has been well taken care of and stored out of the weather which may come with a lot of the things you will be adding.

Easy to not think about all the little things but when you start adding in the fire extinguishers, the lighting, the batteries and battery boxes, the wiring and fuse blocks, the circuit breakers for the trolling motor you will be surprised what all these things add up to cost, even things like rope cleats and tie up ropes or a long rope that you use to launch with hopefully you are getting my drift and that is not taking into consideration the gas motor (the biggest single expense in most cases) if you want one, the trolling motor or depth finders.

Many used boats from private owners come with about everything including the required legal safety equipment which will save a lot of dollars on getting on the water cost.

Nothing comes with that new hull and trailer and before you realize it the hull and trailer were one of the cheapest cost overall.

A good tin hull generally would have to really be neglected to be damaged where it was not noticed on inspection if it was a decent brand and not ancient in age. If I were you I would look around the used market and see what is out there. Generally this is a great time of the year to buy as well and will generally have some of the lowest prices of the year.

Your question I would not have any qualms about buying a Tracker Grizzly. Most well known brands make good boats and how you treat it and take care of it will be more important than the name on the side.

I have the 14 footer, nice boat just don't like the back seat base in the middle for a tiller steering motor. also everything is sealed up, I had to rivet all the addons. I still like it, I'm gonna move the seat base to the left when I have time. When I move to KY Lake I plan on using it in the winter on Jonathan Creek on the nicer days.

I have a 2010 1648SC with a 2011 Merc 60 EFI 4S. It is a great boat. Trackers do get an undeserved bad reputation sometimes. That's usually due to Bass Pro's hurry-up and get them out the door rigging. I have an outboard repair shop and I am too busy repairing motors for customers, during fishing, to get to use it much. I would probably sell it if the offer is right.
