    Default Adding Rectifier/Regulator

Is it worth it to add a rectifier/regulator to my Yamaha 15 hp outboard to charge a deep cycle battery?

Does it have the required charge coils under the flywheel? If it does you should already have at least a rectifier. There should be 2 yellow wires coming from underneath the flywheel. Also if your motor is electric start from the factory you already have a charge circuit.

It is not electric start. I haven’t looked yet, but to my understanding it should have the output from the flywheel. I was just curious (providing it’s possible) if it would charge the deep cycle battery enough for it to be worth it.

What is your intention as far as charging the battery?

Keep up with GPS/lights, etc or trolling motor?

I don’t have an extension cord long enough while out on the lake. Lol. I have an on board charger for when the boat is parked. I’m trying to get a little extra life, while on the water, for longer days of fishing.

What are you running on this battery? Also what size or group deep cycle battery do you have? And how long can you run now before you run out ?

Unless your planning on running the motor half the night or longer at half throttle don't think your going to gain much charge for a deep cycle battery. Charging circuits on most out board motors are only designed to replace the surface charge pulled from electric cranking. And minor electrical draws. On larger 4 stroke motors with alternators little bit different story. But still would require a lot of run time to recharge a battery depleted from a trolling motor.
