    Default 3 banks/2 batteries

    I have a BPS XPSiT 5/5/5 3 bank charger.
I'm currently running 2 batteries for 12v trolling motor and 1 for starting.
Since the batteries are 4 years old I know they will eventually need to be replaced and I since I rarely troll with the tm anymore I was thinking of going back to just 1 battery for the t/m once the current set dies.
My question is can I still use my 3 bank charger for a 2 battery set up?
I was thinking of doubling the leads to the one t/m battery for the set up.
These chargers are made by Pro Mariner.

Thanks in advance to all that answer.

Some of the older Pro Mariner units tell you to double up with unused leads so the unit won't "think" there is a bad battery at the end and go into alarm.

Many chargers you can double up on fine and if your charger is a 5 amp per bank charger will feed the doubled battery 10 amps and recharge quicker. Check the owners manual and see what the manufacturer recommends.
I had one Guest brand 2 bank charger which was used doubled up for years and when I added another battery split the leads and it still worked great.

I am one of those that would rather buy and install two 2 bank chargers in a 3 or 4 battery system even if I double up or disable one set of the leads on one charger as to me it is much cheaper if one bank of the charger fails to just need to replace a two bank charger rather than a three or 4 bank unit.

"Check the owners manual and see what the manufacturer recommends."

Manual doesn't say anything, I checked before posting.
My thoughts for doubling the cables on one battery were it can't hurt since it's indirectly connected the individual battery right now via the jumper cable tying the 2 batteries together making the parallel connection to the 2nd battery.
The unit was purchased & installed in the spring of 2011.

Be careful, you might need new batteries and a new charger sooner than you want. Call Manufacturer.

My pro Mar charger said to double them up. I tried pulling fuse before I read the directions and it never would show charged. Then I read the directions and it said to double them up. Everything works fine now.

According to Bass Pro tech support yes you can double the leads. In the Q&A section this was asked and answered on page 3. Access Denied
