    Default Motor Cleaning Question

Yesterday I decided to change the battery wiring to my Evinrude 30, 1987 model. I had posted here about the wires needed and got everything I needed. When I opened the cowling up I saw the dirtiest motor I have seen in awhile. Grime and dirt everywhere. After looking on youtube for the proper cleaning method, I am left with a few questions.
One video showed a guy spraying liquid Gunk on a Yamaha 50. He sprayed it everywhere and then rinsed it off with a garden hose. Three or four applications but on the last he just wiped it off. He was fairly careful with the air intake.
Question is whether this is a good method or not. Spraying the Gunk off with a water hose a safe method?
Any advice you could offer would be great. Thanks

I had an old Johnson 25 seahorse. My old Jon boat was sunk numerous times ( mostly while moored during storms) over a 25 year period. All I did was clean out the water, let it dry out, change lower unit oil. Fired right up.

Get it wet, Dry it out.

That gunk engine cleaner is supposed to be safe for wiring and hoses. Spray it on and let it sit. Scrub what you can with a old tooth brush or something similar then rinse. Like him be careful around intake. If you can take intake off and stuff rag in carb. Just remember to take it out.
