Default Not happy with my Grumman Oneida fishing boat

First off, the boat tilts to the right when I sit in the driver's seat when in the water and continues to do so when on plane.
The gas tank provided isn't anchored and slides around, plus it's way too small.
The steering wheel cover was pried off, not allowing it to sit properly when reattached.
The speedometer never worked from day one.
The water overflowing from the livewell overflow drops water into the bilge when on the water which has to be pumped out with the bilge pump. When on land it drains from the transom drain hole. I pump in fresh water from the aerator pump.
The trailer hitch is too small for the ball.
The straps and transom hoops that are supposed to secure the transom when on the trailer, come loose within a few miles of travel and the normal rocking of the boat on less than smooth roads.
The trolling motor stopped working properly today and I had to transport the boat to the repair shop, fortunately only 35 minutes from the house.

The company was notified about the defects in mid May and I was told they were too busy to pick the boat up until Sept., unless I wanted to drive it two hours one way to the factory. They recently changed it to mid October. The boat was purchaseD in May of this year and used less than six times.

The dealer is useless and not one to give satisfaction regarding problems he should have known about when selling a new boat.(..or if he did, just wanted to make the sale.) He rarely returns my phone calls.

Guess I'll have Grumman decide what to do about the design flaw and other issues and then sell it at a loss.

Warn anyone buying a Grumman fishing boat (one with a rod locker, live well, console and pedestal seat), NOT TO!

I believe I would of driven the 2 hrs instead of waiting 5 months, would of been worth it to just get it taken care of.. tell dealer/Grumman they weren't too busy to take your money.
Also might just take it to dealer and leave it there tell him its his problem and to take care of it.

Two hour trip to take to manufacturer....you should have done it and also tell them that the dealer is un concerned. The dealer should be fixing most of your problems if not all.

I have a feeling the problem is a design/quality control issue and can't believe that model can be improved on. Worse, company apathy is what may cause me to get government agencies involved - especially where it concerns boat safety. I called the dealer yesterday in the morning and his wife said she'd pass on the message. No call returned and probably won't get one about the hitch that's too small for the ball on the truck and to confirm that I want to pick up my bass boat.*

*When I took the boat and trolling motor to the authorized repair shop, I discovered it was owned by a tackle shop owner and boat dealer I've known for 40 years. About 20 years ago, he knew a retired Merc mechanic that could fix my old 1986 Mercury motor attached to the Ranger. Worked great for many years, but ethanol in all likelihood again did it in last year which made me look to buy another fishing boat. The mechanic still does work for him on request and is the only one that is willing work on old engines.

Absolutely amazing the luck to have gone to him based on Minn Kota's list of authorized repair shops, only to find out that I knew him and that the Ranger can be back on the water this year! He also made note of the Grumman's design defects having been in the business for years. He also has known the boat dealer that screwed me and nodded in confirmation that some things just never changer regarding his high prices and bad service. Live and learn (hopefully at my age of 70.)

But hey, I was in no rush to get the boat back to the factory since I have a 10' V in the back of my truck that has been invaluable the catching of hundreds of fish of all species this year in lakes with no boat ramps. It even has a livewell if I want to load it! All the fish I've posted on this site were caught from that boat.

Confront the boat dealer face to face...not on phone. Demand that it be promptly fixed....if not report him to the better business bureau. If you financed that boat contact the finance people...tell them the problem....let them know you will not make another payment until the boat is fixed.

Unfortunately I paid $21k in cast and I have gone to the shop to talk to him. His response: it's the company's problem.
I think the boat tilt is unsafe and need to find out who to report that to plus the BBB.

    You say the boat tilts?
It's not uncommon for an aluminum side console to sit a little uneven with only 1 person in the boat. Depending on the weight of that 1 person the effects could very or lesson with the size of the operator.
I know my boat which is about the size of your has a little lean to it and I'm 170#. When I first give it some throttle it seems to lean a little more but as I trim the motor out it seems to level out pretty good.
In post #4 you mention a "Ranger" if you're expecting an aluminum to react like a fiberglass...it's not going to happen.

The tilt stays no matter - at a standstill or on plane. The buddy I fish with Sat. weighs over 250 lbs and the tilt lessened but only if he sat on the left side rod locker cover. I weigh 185 and it shouldn't do that.

The 1986 Ranger is my pride & joy that I've had it since I bought it used in 1990. Stable, comfortable for both anglers, dependable, easy to launch and put back on the trailer, fast, has two t.m. batteries connected in series, a starter battery and a large gas tank for large waters. The only pain is having to add oil to the gas for the 2 cycle motor. Not sure if 2 strike is much less in gas mileage than 4 stroke, but a tank lasts a month fishing 3-4x a week.

As far as hauling it up steep inclines, sure my truck speed drops to 50 mph, but going back downhill at a coast I gotta watch it! State Troopers are starting to crack down! Towing the Grumman doesn't make going up a steep hill that much faster, at least not with my 2003 Silverado truck.
