Default Merc 30hp still bogs on occasion

I spent the last days at the river fooling with my motor (engine). It still bogs on occasion. I can be idling along and it occasionally will bog down or I can be at WOT and occasional bog. I ran 30 minute up tp the power line with no bog and coming back I had several bogs. This is a hard to digest problem.

Sometimes the engine never bogs. Holy dodo!

I switched tank and line to another tank and line. Tried the Lucas injector cleaner. New plugs. New fuel filter. I have had it. I didn't replace the fuel pump, but I doubt that is the problem. I am beginning to believe I have an injector problem. The motor has very low hours and looks brand new. The engine has been serviced on a regular basis and never has been abused. I take care of my stuff.

Merc dealer said it will be 4 weeks before he can get to it. Bummer.

I pulled the boat out of the water and am taking it to a local Merc dealer, unless someone has a suggestion. I am not too far from a water hole or a water hose.

Another question, does it completely die when it Boggs down or just bogg then take back off again. It sounds real similar to the problems some of the guys have had on bigger motors. VST tank has a electric fuel pump in it. It also is a reasivor for fuel. It has a float system like a carb and float bowl. Merc has a problem with that float Assy causing it to stick. When it sticks closed the tank runs out of fuel thus bogging or dying. Then it comes lose and fills with fuel and runs fine. That would be next thing I investigated. Could be electrical but I doubt it.

It bogs momentarily, then resumes shortly thereafter. The problem is inconsistent.

That could still be that float causing that. Does it ever bog long enough that you could pump the bulb while it's doing it?

Not really. Sea foam fixed most of the bog. I saw no improvement with Lucas fi mix.

I'd take apart the VST. It sounds like what I've read on it too. It gets clogged up with little junk and causes intermittent bogging.

Thanks for all the input. I pulled the boat to the shop. I just had eye surgery and can't do much. Neighbor had the same problem. We both get our gas from the same gas pump place (country junction). Coincidence?

I'd get my gas at a busy gas station even if I had to put it in gas cans and take them to the boat.

Cheap insurance. I change the filter every spring for about $10.
