There is an online prop shop that I bought my current prop from. They have an exchange program. You buy a prop, they ship it to you. If it doesn't work like you want it to, you ship it back and they ship you another one. I know for a fact that they do that, because I swapped from the first one that I bought. I'll look and see if I can find out the name of it. All I can remember for sure is that it was up north. The sales guy you talk to doesn't know that much, there's a guy in the back that you need to talk to. I'll look through my notes....

Pull prop off shaft, Mark one spline, then count the splines on the shaft. Yours should be a 15 spline shaft. His Yamaha prop should also be 15 spline.
And if that's the case do I need a hub kit or will it just slide on?

Go to a prop shop...give them all your info...they can tell you what pitch prop to try...then if it does not work they will go by your rpm readings and exchange it for another one to try.
Click on the link on my other post...It is a listing of every prop shop in Mo...addresses and phone numbers.
Okay so I went out and pulled the prop the shaft coming out of the engine is 15 splines then there is a collar inside of the prop that has 15 splines that it slides onto the motor shaft and 4 splines into the prop. I know everyone keeps saying take it to a prop shop but I am 30 minutes from the closest one around me and I would like to figure out how to do this myself.

Call on the phone to prop shop...Tell them what boat you have....what motor you have...Tell them your rpm readings etc. Tell them how the boat is doing etc. and ask them what pitch prop do they think you need. Then go get a prop that pitch and come home and put it on and go try it out.
That is what is called a Flo- Torq hub. It is unique to Mercury props. It is designed to be replaceable without taking to a prop shop. You can install another prop with a pressed in hub that has the 15 spline hub right onto the shaft. Make sure you leave the thrust washer that is behind the hub on the shaft. If you happen to buy a Mercury prop then that hub should fit right into it.
