Will that prop in the link fit my engine or is there something else I should check before ordering to try?

I would double check to make sure it will fit by making a phone call. By everything I could find in the description it should.

How much of a difference will I notice coming out of the home you think? And if I get that many more rpms I don't think my top end would suffer much am I thinking correct?

Should be big difference in hole shot. Getting to proper rpm should keep top speed close to what you have if not improve it.
I'm going to say this again, you really need to find a place local that would let you try a couple of props before purchase to find right one. With that loaded rpm difference to light load you may even have to drop to a 15. On average you will gain 250 rpm per inch of drop. So with that a 17 would get you to around 5500 light. Depending on how often you run heavy that is still going to put you on the low side of rpm range for any kind of decent performance.

As Cray said, you'll SHOOT out of the hole. I was having some motor issues and thought it was prop issues and I dropped from a 19 down to a 15. First time I took it out, it literally JUMPED out of the hole and was turning 5600 RPM's by the time I got the handle buried. I had to back out of it to keep it from over revving. I ended up going back up to a 19 pitch truck once I got my motor straightened out.

If you end up needing a 15 pitch prop, I've got one I'd sell cheap. $50 plus shipping. It's a Yamaha prop. I don't know if that's the same style hub you need or if you'd need to swap the hub.

EDIT: Look on Google for a prop shop in your area. Surely to goodness where you're at, there's several prop shops. They'll generally let you try before you buy.

Good deal on that prop. Most late model Yamaha, Suzuki, mercury props will interchange.

Heavy load boats generally do better with a 4 blade prop, better hole shot , ( one extra blade for bite ) and getting one close to your current prop pitch will have very little affect on your top end speed. Mercury 4 blade props (aluminum) come in even number pitch , so for your boat a same diameter prop in an 18 pitch should help with your planing problems. Now a few posts have said go way lower on pitch but doing that over revs your motor and robs top end speed, and over revving your engine can cause engine damage , pistons touching the cylinder head from rod stretching, I've seen that and it's a very expensive fix

Thanks everyone very informative I am going to look around and see if I can find a shop. A 4 blade 16 sounds like a good place to start maybe.

I have checked around and I'm having trouble finding a 16-inch that I can try before I buy I would be willing to buy yours if I can verify that it will fit my motor what do I need to check to see if it will
