    Default Trolling motor breaker

So was out fishing yesterday and all of a sudden I had no power to the trolling motor. Quickly figure out that it's the breaker for TM that keeps tripping. When TM is unplugged the breaker is fine but as soon as the plug connection touches it flips the breaker and wire becomes hot to touch. TM is a motorguide 12 volt. This is the first time this has happened. It's always ran fine before this. All connections are tight. I'm horrible with electricity but where should I start?

See if you've got a break in your insulation, or something touching the back of the plug where the wires attach.

I've pulled out as much loose wire as I can and don't see any defects to the wire. It is a thicker wire but unsure of what gauge it is. Not sure if this makes a difference or not but once connection is made the wire that goes to the foot pedal also gets hot to the touch.

Check wires and connections under the pedal. If you have a meter, ohn the the two wires from the plug to the control pedal.

On a motor guide on the speed control knob. You probably have a connection or two that have gotten hot and melted the insulation and main power is shorted to ground.

Make sure all connections are not only tight, but clean. My TM kept tripping the breaker. Little emery file to the connections, and no more trippy.
