I always buy the complete kit just in case and keep what ever I don’t use for next time.

ok my buddy has a 92 omc 15hp motor. he wants me to help him replace the impeller for him, since the marina price about gave him a stroke. lol i have done it many times on my older motors so im not new to this procedure. what i want to know is the gear placement. i know on some of the new motors they have to be in forward or reverse to remove the lower unit. so, is this motor one of those or do you do it in neutral just like the older ones?
another question is, do i need to replace with the entire" kit", or can we just put in a new impeller, like the older motors. i know there is a lot of plastic parts in these new motors, so there mite be parts in there that need to be replaced. the older motors were all stainless, brass and cast aluminum so i never had to replace anything but the rubber impeller on those.
any other tips you have on this procedure would be appreciated.
thanks for your reply's, Tim
