    Default Trolling motor skeg

Broke a good chunk off the skeg of my trolling motor. It’s a Minn Kota V2 PowerDrive. Looks like the whole part is called a “brush end housing”. Is there enough left to worry about having it repaired, or should I just keep running it? I have fished with it since it broke, slow trolled, jigged, and it still performed. Now that I’m not using the boat “as much” I was thinking about geting the part replaced. I pull cranks using the trolling motor and was concerned with performace though. Anyone have any suggestions?? Other than the aesthetics .... I don't think it will perform any less than normal. Unless I was OCD about the looks, I'd just keep using it as is. The only thing that would make me put a new "brush end housing" on it, is if the motor vibrated real bad at upper speeds (and it didn't before losing part of the skeg).

It is still covering your transducer so I would not worry about it.

It's on there to protect the prop. Your prop is now somewhat more in danger. You could probably bolt a piece on it. That's what I'd do if it were mine. Maybe fold a piece of aluminum over, slip the skeg in between the two pieces and bolt it together, or maybe even try some souped up epoxy to hold it without fasteners.

Then disregard my original post. I'm cheap and redneck engineer a lot of things, but I'm not that cheap. LOL

I just ran mine into a rock yesterday. Didn't break anything, it still runs, but the prop doesn't look so good. I ordered another prop and spare nut assembly....
