    Default Yamaha 115

My Yamaha 115 when it trims down It bumps on the right side on the mount, but it will bump on by but moves slower. There is a small gap on the left side. Is there a way to move it over a few thousandths with out removing the motor.

I think I would loosen the transom mounting bolts first and then run it up and down to see if that side is mounted in a bind. If it still does it there may be a shin washer missing on that side letting it move over. But it sounds like something has it in a bind. Is this just started or been going on for awhile.

I just bought the pontoon so I don't know how long it has been doing it. It bumps by, but it goes slower going the rest of the way down.

could be the shift from "TILT" to "TRIM" mine changes speed at that point trim is slow as it should be, but then when tilt kicks in it comes up faster so you don't have to wait forever for it to get high enough to put the motor toter on. Works the same way going down.

Ok let me ask you another question. I made the assumption you had seen it hitting then read WB's post and got me to thinking. He is correct in that most trim units have 2 different speeds for trim and tilt functions. Now my question is on the right side has it worn the paint off where you think it is hitting. If it's binding there it will have a pretty good wear mark.

Yes you can see it hitting. It will bump it and then go by and rub while it finishes going down. There is a small gap on the left side. It seems as it needs to be shimmed over to the left a tenth or so. It looks like I would have to pull the motor off the mount to shim it.

I'm betting it's supposed to have a thin nylon washer/shim in there that may be missing. Give me the year and serial number and I'll do some research and see what I can find. Might be able to block motor up and slide tilt pin over enough to insert a shim then put back in without completely removing motor. Probably need good floor Jack and a couple of blocks along with a few hand tools. And most likley need another set of hands.

Just did a quick lookup. Yes it has a washer between the motor bracket and mounting bracket. It also has a nylon bushing that goes into motor bracket that has a slight flange on it. Then washer fits between it and mounting bracket. A new washer could be installed without removing motor but if flange on bushing is gone I think you would have to pull tilt pin and rock motor back a little bit to replace bushing. Would probly be safest with a cherry picker.

Thanks Cray for the research. I will look to see if those spacers are there. I have a cherry picker but that sounds like a winter job.

Most large motors will do that. It's caused by the torque of the engine's propeller. It basically twist the swivel bracket. Not something to be worried with.
    I'd rather be fishing.
