Default Help with 2.5 hp Tahatsu

Engine is 2007 with not that many hrs. Been dormant for last 3 years
due to my health. Son & I decided we are going fishing now. The little
motor would not start, we cleaned carb and it now runs, but with the
ear muffs on there is no water coming out of pee hole tube. Little blue
smoke from tube & I shut it down.
Was just wondering if the water pump has failed, and if so are they hard
to replace. BTW It's 2.5 hp and I did not see any debris where the water
    enters the motor. Thanks

If you know for sure it's a pee hole, make sure dirt dobbers have not filled it with dirt. Happens more than you think. Take a piece of weed eater line or mech wire and shove in the hole. If dirt comes out, that was it. If not take rubber tube off and make sure you can blow through it. If all that is clear it could possibly have a thermostat that doesn't allow water to flow from the pee hole until a certain temp. I'm not familiar with engine so I don't know for sure. Water pumps are normally pretty easy. Scour Web and try to find a breakdown of the engine. I would say completely doing the pump and not just the impeller would be less than 50 dollars. Hope that helps.

Thanks Scrapper for your info. I've already ordered a Water pump kit, but
will also check out your advise first jut to see. RD

Were you able to get a good seal with the muffs? I have a 2.5 Suzuki and I could not get muffs to work, the lower unit is to small. To perform the break in on the motor I filled up a garbage can about 2/3 the way full and mounted it in there and let it run, worked like a champ.

I have a 25 HP Tohatsu that was stored over 5 years. the muff fitted good and I also had no water out the Pee tube.. I removed it and the top of the thermostat and had no water there -- I thought it needed a new impeller but it did not --- There was too much pressure on the hose.. when the water was almost off because of the Mini Lake I was standing in .. with almost no water the pump started doing its job... Any time I hook up the hose it is the same, very little water and the pump works like a champ

Hadn't thought about that, but will give that a try. I wasn't getting
a real good seal, but it's always worked in the past. Thanks for the
    suggestion. RD

Very good suggestion, I had a 40hp Yamaha that would not run on muffs and bet that was my issue, cause it ran fine in the lake. My 150hp Evinrude runs flawlessly off muffs with higher pressure, guess it makes sense bigger motor can pump more water.

    Update on mtr. It's a 3.5 tahatsu & not 2.5. Bought a water pump
kit. Dropped the lower unit and the water pump impeller was toast.
The hardest part of the whole thing was lining the lower unit back
up, since it has neutral and 1 gear, plus the water line and of
course the top spline all have to fit exactly right.
Thanks for everyone's help. Works fine, and now I can do some
    long-lining. RD
