Hello: Due to back trouble I bought a 3500 lb. winch from harbor freight and adapted it to my winch stand and also bought a cordless remote control for it . Have used it going on 4 years and no problems. The remote say's it's for a 9000 to 12000 lb. winch but as others have said it works for the 3500 b winch as well. At the time I think it cost under $150.00. I also bought the 5 year extended warranty that was at a special price of $3.00 So I am still covered by warranty. My boat only weighs around 1800 lbs. loaded and fueled but went with a bigger winch , the price was not much of a difference. I also removed the cable and replaced it with 3/8 super line rope. Good Luck. O - R

I use Reese Towpower 74329 Trailer Winch. This is an affordable, durable, and comfortable trailer winch perfect for small to mid-sized boats or personal watercraft. One thing I love the most about this manual winch is its durability.

I Have the fulton 2 speed winch. Excellent product IMO. Using on a heavy fiberglass boat. No comparison from factory wench.

One place I sometimes launch at has a steep angle to it. I tried to load my boat all the way forward on the trailer once, and my front roller hit the trolling motor mount. So now, I stop a little short and hook the winch and crank it in the last foot or so. In some circumstances, sometimes you need to crank the winch.

I replacing my 15 year old Fulton XLT single speed winch with a Fulton 2 speed winch. Using the same model on my buddy's boat is a night and day difference. The bolt pattern looks the same between the two so I'm anticipating an easy swap once it arrives on the UPS truck.

The Fulton 2 speed winch low gear is about 1/3rd the diameter of high speed gear. So it takes about 1/3rd the effort in low gear and takes up about 1/3rd of the strap per full rotation. I load a 33ft Pursuit on a trailer with the winch in high gear till the last 2 ft, then switch to low to complete the load. I would highly recommend for reduced effort, just remember more turns are needed.
