    Default Minnkota Edge 70

I have an intermittent no power when using the mom setting and button on pedal. Sometimes it works normal, next time nothing. When it doesn't work I either have to jerk the lift rope and let motor drop, or reach down and hit the top of motor. Seems to act up the worst when in lowest speed. I have replaced brushes and springs, didn't help. I have not tried the con setting. Any help would be awesome. I have not taken the top off to look for loose wires, hoping to do that today.

I have an Edge 70 I converted from a 45. There are a few things to check. Momentary switch contacts in the foot pedal, power supply connection, open the top and check the black ground wire connection for overheating/corrosion. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Roll the foot pedal over, check all the wiring connections on speed control and on/off button. Also check to make sure that button on pedal is making good contact with on/off switch. Have had a couple after some wear would not engage switch every time. From there then pull top cover and check connections under there.

It's not the button on pedal, checked that. Find it hard to believe it will be in the foot pedal, but will check. I did everything possible to pedal except throwing it in while fishing.

I called Minn Kota Tech support today. They gave me a list of trouble shooting tips. Eliminated the possibility of the push button switch, also eliminated the 5 speed control switch. Based off of their information it is the speed control coil in the lower unit. Not sure at this point if I will fix or scrap it.

A 5 speed 70# 24v lower unit is $200 on Amazon. You probably couldn't repair it for that. I bought one for my changeover from 45 to 70#. Just a thought.

Minn kota says, after doing the diagnostics, that I need to due the armature/brush plate upgrade. $94.99 + shipping. THe edge 70 had some issue with these parts. Of course, even with them admitting there is an issue, I have to pay full price. Might put it up for sale for parts and put my 55# back on

Sounds like what is wrong with mine. Already ordered parts or I would be checking for that
