I covered the bunks on the jon boat trailer with PVC Fence Post covers. One word of caution though. Do NOT unhook the winch strap untill the transom of the boat is IN the water.

No problem. I could use the transom TM to power load the boat, leave the TM running and move forward and attach the winch strap.

I would stay with what factory puts on them ( carpet ) seen to many boats setting on the rock or concrete do to people unhooking the boat before they go down the ramp.

That's what I was wondering. I've had my tlr new since 1995 but will replace the bunks this year. New wood and carpet of some sort. Most likely marine carpet.

I have the "trailer sliks" from Cabela's on my trailer. 3rd boat I have used them on. You don't need to place them end to end, that would make the boat impossible to keep on the trailer. Mine are spaced about a foot apart from front to back and it slides on and off easily but will stay on if you unhook the winch strap(at the water of course). It will stay put when I drive the boat on as well.
