Thanks for the report on something we all become complacent with. It's like forgetting the plug, I think we all do it at least once.
Just thought I'd share what happened to me Monday on the way back home. After spending all weekend on lake Blackshear I had gotten sick as a dog Monday morning and the wife had to drive us back home pulling the boat. It was a 2 hour drive and she had never pulled a boat or trailer before so she was extremely nervous. We pulled out and about 40 miles down the road the bimini top came loose and was flopping so we stopped and took it down and tied it off. I was so sick I could hardly hold my head up but we managed to secure it and take back off. An hour later as we crossed over the river below Thomaston, GA, I was jolted awake by the sound of the trailer being drug behind the Expedition and told her to slowly pull over and slowly come to a stop. We got out and discovered the hitch pin/lock in the reciever was gone! The tongue jack had a wheel on it and it followed the truck and there was no damage to the boat, trailer or truck! The safety chains I installed had worked perfectly and it was enough uphill grade to keep it off the tail gate of the truck! The pin was a Masterlock locking hitch pin and been on there for about 5 years. I never worried about it as I assumed it would just always be there. You can bet from now on I will definitely doublecheck that the pin/lock is secured before I leave out. My brother in law brought us a spare and we merely cranked up the trailer, slid the hitch back in the reciever, put the new pin in and drove the rest of the way home. I complimented her on doing a great job and not panicking during the ordeal. Just thought I would pass this along as I have never heard of a hitch lock coming off and figured somebody else may do the same thing.

I dumped one on NY State Thruway years ago! I go over everything 100% on any trip more than an hour from the house. Even on short trips near home, the first stop sign is 300 yards from the house, I get out and double check lights, hitch, canopy etc etc. Our street isn't very busy and gives me piece of mind!
Sure glad everything turned out OK, think you owe your wife a new pair of shoes!
At my age I have a checklist I go through every time I get ready to go fishing. # 1 is Drain Plug and the last one is my morning coffee.
Hope you are feeling better.

Feel better soon! I just cut the master lock hitch pin off my truck the other day cause I lost the keys a few years ago, ain't found that bundle of keys yet! ... trailer felt a little "loose" last week and i wondered if the pin head wear in it??? hmmmm...worth the $20.00 for a new keyed receiver pin! and yes...I have the key!

Thanks for the well wishes! I was sick due to an allergic reaction to red meat I developed due to a Lone star tick bite. They had made some sausage balls for breakfast, one with pork sausage and the other with turkey sausage, that got mixed them up and I ate the wrong ones. After 7 or 8 Benadryl tablets it kept me from going into anaphylactic shock but that stuff knocks me out and I still have to contend with the other effects. This is one of the main reasons I got back into crappie fishing as I can eat all I can catch! Problem is I ain't that good at catchin' 'em....yet!
