I had to have mine rebuilt by Beech Lake Marine because it was leaking down.

Nearly every mechanic i've asked says it's dangerous to attempt because of the gas charge, the gas must have gone from mine, but the leaking seal would allow the oil to get in the water and that's a BIG no no. --shu

I would not mess with those things, they are dangerous , and to make things worse they are not avalible new anymore so I would look for a good used one, maybe Outboard recycle in Alabama

Flushed with fresh oil, drained and refilled(leaked. Removed piston and took to pump repair facility he replaced seal on shaft, refilled put on motor and IT WORKS, motor has no assist but no leaks either, so i can go fishing and total cost about $16.00.--shu
