    Default Removing Auto Oiler On 40 HP Mercury


    I'm wanting to remove the auto oiler on a 2003 40 hp, 2 stroke, and mix my oil and gas. I've read that some say disconnect the two
    blue wires.
    The only blue wires that I've seen is going to the probe in the bottom of the oil reservoir tank, is this the wires I disconnect?
    I know I'm suppose to unhook the oil line to the pump and plug it, but that's all I know.
    If the oil pump gear is still turning would it not need oil, or be damaged?
    If I need to unhook a wire from the oil pump what color would it be?
    I don't have a diagram to go by, just eye ballin it.

    Those blue wires go to the low oil sensor in the tank. Why do you want to disconnect it?

    Default Removing Auto Oiler

    I've had to replace two oil sensor's, now my oil reservoir has a crack and has leaked oil out. It wouldn't cost nothing to disconnect the auto oiler, but will to replace the reservoir.
    I don't mind mixing the gas and oil at all, plus I'm tired of messing with the auto oiler.

    I really need some answere's on this, I'm going nuts not being able to use my boat to go fishing. I guess I could use some apoxy to fix the tank, but I'd rather just unhook the oiler and be done with it.
    Somebody help me please.

    I-boats.com has always given me good input on questions like this. When mine was disconnected I was told there was a kit(of sorts) that allowed removal of the shaft that drove the gear in the oiler and held the remaining bushing in place. I never saw it disassembled but this was what I was told. V6 motor, not sure yours would be anything close. I never ran the motor with the oiler on it, too many horror stories.

    Thanks Skeetbum, I'm thinking my motor won't need a kit, but what do I know?
    I know BarnacleBill has told others how to remove there's, but he just wanted to know why I wanted to remove it.
    I've read on iboats, but nothing in my hp range, and I don't want to do anything yet until I find out. So I'm stuck.....but thanks.
    I did check to see how much a boat shop charged, and that was $55 per hour, and they wanted to keep it all week.
    When he said that, I knew I would be charged more than 1 hour, so I said no thanks.

    I'm not sure about your newer motor and don't want to give you the wrong info. i-Boats.com is an excellent souce of info and I'm sure they can steer you right.

    Its rare that you can find a manual on line but I lucked out and found yours. http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service_Manual_Index.html

    It look like you can take the 2 screws out the hold the pump in and remove the pump. Now take the gear #22 off and reinstall the pump. Unfortunately Merc does not make a cover for the hole when you remove the pump so it must be put back in to seal that hole.

    If for some reason you can't remove that gear (which would be the best way to do it) let me know and there is another way it could be done.
