Also On the bearing buddy grease pressure,, I bought a off-brand set of bearing buddys at wal mart or somewhere years ago with another boat and they where chrome coated and they would pop off if I put too much grease in them , we ended up losing 4 of the in one trip down to the keys, about 200 miles, ended up taping dixie cups to the end of the hubs to get home.
So either my hub was too big or the hub on the bearing buddy was too small then grease pressure kept popping them off.But the little dixie cups like 6 oz size and duct tape will get you back home..

And another question for everyone here, what is the best type of spray or grease to keep on your springs. I have to admit I will probably need a new set this coming year now,Small leaf springs on a 18 foot pontoon boat, But I do use it in salt water most of the trips out and do the freshwater fishing for speck when they start hitting down in Fla..And I do washdowns after every trip but the salt is killer on a galvanized trailer
I have sprayed a few different things on them but they keep rusting out . Any Ideas?

When you put the new ones on put this paint on them. It's a little pricey but the stuff really works. Painted the bottom of the Bonneville about 8yrs ago and it still looks good.

Ever wonder if the truck plug-in for the trailer lights is functioning vs. a short in the main positive and ground wires of the trailer? After many trips to the shop for an intermittent problem, I finally decided to test the lights directly by cutting off the plug, attaching jumpers to the wires mentioned and attaching them to a battery lying on the ground.
After that, I reattached the plug to the trailer, inserting it into the truck's trailer plug and putting on the headlights.

None of the trailer lights came on except when I had my brother-in-law jiggle the wires coming out of the truck plug. Turned out there was a short in the plug that needed to be replaced. Wonder why I (or the idiots at the garage) didn't figure it out sooner with such a simple method. Of course $250 later after changing fuses and rewiring the wire harness under the hood, who's the real idiot?! (In my defense, any expertise gained in these matters is usually by trial and error - usually in error.)

A cheap Radio Shack voltmeter allows you to check individual lights using the resistance setting. Just plug in the probes and watch the meter. No needle movement, light's shot.

hi I am in the process of painting my trailer and wonder how you can change the four end connector to the 7-way plug-in..... I am going to redo all lights on the trailer and since I don't know how long these wires have been on this trailer..... I have a 16ft Jon boat with a front deck and a rear deck also where two riding seats are in between them is my live well so I kid when I say I have a Jon boat bass wanta be boat lol.... Hoping to put new 3/4 marine grade decking boards down and re-carpet it sometime this year... Since I am disabled due to a back injury money is very hard to come by trying to still catch up credit card for work done on a new Heat pump last year and septic tank pumped not to mention work to my boat had to replace power trim and tilt, did it myself, but also didn't have muffs hooked up right and messed the water pump and found my lower water gasket was leaking so was out over $200 that again I didn't have... And well because of the new Hull #'s that the guy I bought boat off from in Tenn. had lost time I got them and could legally fish out of boat it was up into June... So I am hoping that things go a little better this year.... I am hoping by April to go Crappie Fishing haven't been in years......

Sounds like you have overcome many obstacles and have a few more left to go. Good luck an hope you get out on the water in the spring.

This will adapt your trailer flat 4 to your vehicle 7 prong. Lowes has them for $10.

Does anyone have information (diagram, picture, etc.) for making a spare tire mount that includes a spare hub? Mounting the tire on the wheel is an easy enough thing for me to envision and build, but does a mount that includes a spare hub with the spare tire mounted to it need to basically be a stub spindle? How do you keep it from spinning and how do you secure it against theft? I want the spare hub as well as the spare tire/wheel mounted on the trailer and not kept in the truck or boat so it is always where and with what it needs to go on.

    Thanks.

When I replaced my trailer hubs, the new Smith hubs each came in cute little black plastic cases. I kept the better one of my old hubs, put it in one of the little cases (Including lug nuts, old bearing, etc.), and keep it stowed in a boat compartment. I hope to never need it, but I suspect the chances are greater that I will run upon someone who will need it at boat ramp or on the side of the road somewhere.
If and when that happens, I will probably just buy a new single hub kit and stash it in the boat.
To store it takes very little space, I see no need to mount it to the trailer in the elements and such.

I have no compartments in my boat. I have a milk crate under my console that is full and I keep a small duffle bag of tools I have to move back to the bilge area on top of the fuel tank when I'm fishing.
