I learned something this morning 9-16-18
If you remember my post I said big bass are hitting my crappie when I wind them in sometimes. After I caught my limit of crappie, I got my bass rod out and I put a fresh live crappie on on a circle hook. I live lined it with no weight, just like I use to do with stripers/rock fish. It worked, I caught this, I guess it is 5 lb. or close to it. Had the circle hook in side of mouth. I am glad no one was around watching me on my belly trying to grab the bass. It gave me a fit trying to land it. Great day in my opinion. Back home at 9:30 am. I took a few pictures of same fish.Name: 9-16-18 (2).jpg

Hard to believe they eat something that large compared to themselves. Like I've always been told, if it fits in mouth they will eat it...lol. Good catch! Good eats!!!

Bass are aggressive feeders, it is amazing what they will try to eat sometimes. Small Bluegill are excellent bait for them also.
Be sure to check your regulations. In some states it is illegal to use game fish as bait.

This is from our regulations here is SC: Only bream, excluding Redbreast, can be used:

    • No game fish may be used as bait to catch fish recreationally except for bream (other than redbreast). Trout may be used as bait only on Lakes Hartwell, Russell, Thurmond, Tugaloo, Yonah, Stevens Creek Reservoir and the Savannah River. When using game fish as bait to catch fish recreationally they must be included in the daily creel limit.

---------------I already checked with DNR in Md. You can use any fish that don't have a season or size limit as long as you use one in you limit. In other words, in Md you are allowed 15 crappie, no size limit. You can only use one for bait in your limit. I hope I explained it wright. Thanks!

In Md Tidal water there is No size limit, NOR any possession limit on crappie. The Marshy Hope(where your pic was taken) is tidal so no limit.

You are right. I was fishing on a fresh water lake. That is why I said 15 crappie limit. Yes, no limit in tide water rivers. Your right on MDCrappie. I'm in a little slump right now, but it will pick up in this area soon. My last good fish came from a spillway fishing for crappie.Name: 10-26-18 Spillway (2).jpg
