    Default Night fishing

Started 2016 out with a night trip to an old reliable spot that i fish from shore . This spot never produces until almost dark and tonight it was all the way dark before they started . I was thinking about giving up when I got a yellow perch about 11"then about 4 cast later I got that tell thump that you just know is a crappie and I missed it . That was enough to keep me interested though and sure enough they moved into the night feeding area . I got 21 really nice crappie ,15 were 12" up to just shy of 14" , weighed one with my digital scale at 1lb. 13 oz. Fin-s on a 1/16 oz jighead was the ticket tonight , real slow retrieve and pause .Released all of them tonight , they bit from just after dark until 6:45 or so .Name: 003.jpg

Now thats an awesome fish! Funny that even in winter low light and setting sun triggers the bite. Had the same experience today, right when its time to leave I start catching.

Tide phases in tidal water have alot to do with it too. The spot I was at last night we think they come in there at night to feed on the small stuff thats up in there ,had to scare an otter off last night . Otters will mess up a crappie bite quick.Ive been catching em at night at this spot since I was a teenager in fact 3 of the guys I always fished with there are passed on now including my dad. We used to fish all day in the boat then pull up there at dusk and fish for an hour or so .

Thats true about the tides. I can't figure out what the best tide is but have figurd out that a full moon slows the bite until the phase changes a week later. Thats nice to have a spot like that with memories. Just visited my dad in NJ and fished his pond for the first time in 10 years. As a kid I put crappie in there and was surprised that they were still there and reproducing. Caught 20 in a couple of hours, all small. Fishing Alpine Pool - YouTube this is a vid I made of me catching a few.

Nice job. Its addicting when you know they are there and you try to get that first bite to figure them out.

Tried em there sunday night the didnt cooperate gave it an hour .I'd say that spot is good about 3 outta 4 times , colder weather shuts em down til it stays cold for awhile then they seem to adjust. It was cold working outside the last 2 days .
