    Default Tree stumps....

I'd like to go into those areas to fish but the feeling of hitting the props to the tree stumps scrares me. I'd use the troller but it's not functioning at the moment. How bad is it to have the props hit the tree stumps ?

I’ve hit a couple with my boat idling and did no damage (aluminum prop and didn’t kill the motor.) My fishing buddy hit one a little more than idling, when I was with him that did kill the motor and bent the prop (aluminum prop and it did kill the motor.) It was bent bad enough that it threw the motor out of balance and we have to idle back to the dock about 3 miles. I think it cost him 30 or 40 dollars to have it repitched. After that I found a spare prop for my boat and keep it and a wrench under the seat, so I can go to the bank and switch it out. My partners new boat has a stainless prop and we hit a few that it slipped in the hub (it’s made to do that, similar to a slip clutch) once killed the engine, but no damage. Again this was a little more than idle, but not fast at all. I think you should be OK if you go SLOW and just idle along. But if you have an aluminum prop I would recommend that you get a spare prop or one of the emergency props to get back in on if you do hit something a little too hard. We normally fish Truman and it is full of trees and stumps if you going to fish there you have to get in amongst the stumps. Most of these that we’ve hit are in 20 to 30 ft of water. I think the one that he bent the prop on was in 40 ft. If you are idling you should kill the motor before doing any damage.

Maybe a spare prop and prop wrench would be a good idea to keep onboard
